We keep score more often than we admit. We remember who apologized first, how many chances we have given, how deeply we were hurt, and whether the other person has “earned” our mercy. But Jesus refuses to give Peter a convenient limit. Forgiveness is not about counting offenses. It is about becoming more like God.

When someone hurts or frustrates us, complaining to someone else feels easier. Avoiding the person feels safer. Holding resentment feels justified. Jesus asks for a harder, more charitable path.
